Our Key Commitments
Our Catholic Life & Mission Policy sets out how we live as a faith community rooted in the love of Christ. It brings together everything that shapes the spiritual heart of our school — our mission, our values, our relationships, our worship, our charity work, and our partnership with families, parish and community.
The policy reminds us that Catholic Life is not a single subject or event.
It is a way of living together.
At its centre is our firm belief that every child is made in the image of God, and that our role is to nurture each one—spiritually, academically, emotionally and socially—so they can grow into the person God has created them to be.
Our CLM Policy commits us to:
• Placing Christ at the centre of school life
We aim to make Christ known and loved through our prayer, our teaching, our behaviour, and the way we treat one another. Every decision we make begins with our mission: “Through Christ We Learn.”
• Providing daily opportunities for prayer and worship
Through Celebration of the Word, class-led worship, the Angelus, Mass, feast days and our Prayer Garden, children experience a rich rhythm of spiritual life that helps them grow in faith and confidence.
• Living the Gospel through our actions
We commit to building a community marked by kindness, justice, forgiveness and service. Our SPIRIT values—Service, Perseverance, Integrity, Respect, Inclusivity and Trust—shape the way we behave and support each other.
• Embedding Catholic Social Teaching (CST)
We teach pupils how to put their faith into action by caring for creation, supporting those in need, standing up for justice, and serving their community. Our charity programme, assemblies and Peace & Justice Missions all come from this commitment.
• Working closely with our parish and clergy
The policy guides our partnership with the church, helping pupils celebrate Mass, understand sacraments, and take part in parish traditions and feast days.
• Valuing the uniqueness of every child
We strive to create an environment where every child feels safe, respected, included and loved. We promote dignity, equity and the belief that all are precious in God’s eyes.
• Forming pupils as leaders of faith
Through teams such as Chaplaincy, Caritas, Eco Leaders, Peace & Justice Leaders and Parliament house, our policy ensures every child has the chance to grow as a leader, serve others and contribute to the life of the school.
• Celebrating diversity and learning about other faiths
We honour the rich cultural and religious backgrounds of our families and teach children to respect and appreciate other faith traditions while remaining rooted firmly in the Catholic identity of the school.
• Placing family partnership at the heart of Catholic Life
We believe that parents are the first educators of faith. Our policy commits us to strong communication, shared prayer opportunities, and meaningful ways for families to engage with our spiritual life.
Together, these commitments guide how we worship, how we teach, how we act, and how we grow.
They help us make St Edmund’s a place where faith is lived, love is shared, and every child can flourish in the light of Christ.
