Catholic Identity

A Welcome of Faith From the Moment You Enter St Edmund’s

From the moment you step into St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School, you are welcomed into a space rooted in faith, calm, and belonging. Our reception area features a beautiful Liturgical Calendar display, helping children, families, and visitors understand the seasons of the Church year—Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, and Ordinary Time—and the special liturgical colours that guide our worship.

Beneath the display, you will find a collection of Mass artefacts used to teach pupils about the sacred objects of the Church: the chalice, paten, crucifix, candles, cloths, censer, and other items that help children understand the beauty and meaning of the Liturgy. The presence of a priest’s vestment and a statue of Our Lady further reminds us of the prayerful foundation at the heart of our school community.

Next to this, our St Edmund’s Book of Prayer and Hope invites parents, pupils, parishioners, and visitors to write intentions, prayers, and messages of thanksgiving. Alongside it, a Prayer Box offers a quiet, confidential space for anyone to leave a prayer for the school community to hold in their hearts.

This sacred corner of our school is a daily reminder that we are a community of faith, guided by Christ, strengthened by prayer, and united in hope and love.

At St Edmund’s, our Catholic identity is visible the moment you enter the school. Our mission “Through Christ we learn” is displayed throughout the building and is lived daily by our pupils and staff. Prayer tables, liturgical displays, and Gospel values can be seen in classrooms and communal areas, creating an environment where Christ is at the centre of school life.

The entrance hall and reception area provide a clear prayer focus, with seasonal cloths, crosses, the Bible, and pupil contributions reminding us of the rhythm of the Church year. Statues, symbols, and scripture quotes help to create a prayerful atmosphere, so that every visitor is welcomed into a space rooted in faith.

Reception Prayer Focus with Prayer Tree

Our entrance hall includes a seasonal prayer table where Scripture, crosses and images of saints invite reflection. The open Bible is a sign of the Word of God at the centre of our school life. The Prayer Tree allows pupils, staff and visitors to write intentions on stars, showing how prayer is shared and visible in our community.

Mission Displays in Reception

Our reception area makes our Catholic identity unmistakable. The mission statement “Through Christ we learn” is displayed prominently, together with the Gospel words: “Let the children come to me”. These banners reflect our vision that every child is valued as God’s masterpiece. The reception desk sits beside these displays, so every visitor is greeted in an environment rooted in Catholic faith.

Mission Statement & Entrance Prayer

Another view of our reception shows the mission statement alongside a school prayer display. This prayer asks for Christ’s help in guiding our daily life and family. The positioning at the front of school ensures that all who enter are reminded of our faith, our values, and our commitment to living the Gospel.
