RSE

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) at St Edmund’s – Snapshot

At St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School, RSE is rooted in our mission “Through Christ, We Learn.” We want every child to know they are loved, created in the image of God, and called to flourish in faith, learning, and life.

Our RSE curriculum is built on the Catholic Education Service (CES) Model Curriculum and taught through the Ten Ten Life to the Full programme, approved by the Diocese of Westminster and fully compliant with statutory DfE guidance. From Early Years through to Year 6, children explore what it means to be created and loved by God, how to build healthy and respectful relationships, and how to live as responsible members of their community.

RSE at St Edmund’s is taught through RE, Science, PSHE, assemblies, and pupil-led Celebrations of the Word. It is enriched by prayer, worship, and Catholic Social Teaching, helping pupils to see how dignity, family life, and care for creation shape their daily decisions. Lessons are age-appropriate, inclusive, and sensitive, ensuring that every child, including those with SEND, can access and participate fully.

Parents are partners in this journey. They are kept informed through newsletters, the Ten Ten Parent Portal, and opportunities for consultation. Parents retain the right to withdraw their child from sex education outside the statutory science curriculum, but we work closely to ensure that the curriculum reflects both the teachings of the Church and the needs of our children.

Our provision is carefully monitored through lesson observations, planning scrutiny, pupil voice and RE floor books, with outcomes reported to governors and included in the Catholic Self-Evaluation Document (CSED).

In all of this, our goal is simple: to help children grow in self-worth, learn how to love and be loved, and understand their calling to live in community. In RSE, as in every part of school life, we seek to help our pupils become the people God created them to be.

Life to the Full – Parent Information

At St Edmund’s we follow Life to the Full, a Relationships, Health and Sex Education (RHE) programme created by Ten Ten Resources and approved by the Diocese of Westminster. It is rooted in Catholic teaching, fully compliant with statutory guidance, and designed to support children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Parents are key partners in this journey. Ten Ten provides a secure Parent Portal where you can:

  • See what your child is learning each term

  • Access resources to support conversations at home

  • Share in the prayers and activities used in school

We encourage all families to make use of this resource so that you are fully aware of the content being taught and can support your child’s learning journey at home.
