Catholic Life and Mission Policy

Catholic Life and Mission Policy – About this Policy

This is our Catholic Life and Mission Policy, which sets out how our mission “Through Christ we learn” shapes every part of life at St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School.

Rooted in the Gospel commandment to “love the Lord your God… and your neighbour as yourself” (Mark 12:30–31), the policy explains how Catholic Life, Collective Worship and Religious Education are lived in our community. It also:

  • Shows how our mission statement is displayed on every sign, classroom and space, and lived daily by pupils and staff.

  • Describes how our school environment reflects faith, with prayer tables, crucifixes, a Prayer Garden, and liturgical displays.

  • Outlines our curriculum and Catholic Social Teaching, including Laudato Si’, respect for other world faiths, and charitable outreach.

  • Celebrates our pupil leadership and chaplaincy teams, such as Caritas Ambassadors, Eco Team, and Mini Vinnies.

  • Ensures Catholic Life and Mission are reviewed regularly in line with diocesan guidance and the Catholic Schools Inspectorate framework.

In the words of Canon Law: “Instruction and education in a Catholic school must be grounded in the principles of Catholic doctrine” (Canon 803 §2). This policy ensures that St Edmund’s continues to live out this calling faithfully in partnership with parish, parents, and community.
