“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35)
The above verse, taken from the Gospel of John, is central to the St Edmund's Catholic School mission to ensure all are loved, listened to, challenged and inspired.
Our Catholic Vision
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
— Galatians 3:28
At St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that every person is made in the image and likeness of God.
We are called to build a community where the dignity of each individual is cherished, where diversity is celebrated as a gift, and where justice is lived out through action.
Our RJED commitment flows from the Gospel and the principles of Catholic Social Teaching (CST):
-
Human Dignity – every person is sacred and worthy of respect.
-
Solidarity – we are one human family, responsible for one another.
-
The Common Good – we work together to build communities that enable all to flourish.
These principles shape our vision for inclusion and equality across the whole life of the school.
A Whole-School Approach
RJED is not a stand-alone initiative. It is woven through every aspect of school life:
-
Curriculum – Black History teaching, diverse texts, and inclusive planning across subjects.
-
Worship and Catholic Life – assemblies, feast days, liturgies, saints, and CST themes.
-
Interfaith Engagement – visits to places of worship, Interfaith Week, and respectful dialogue.
-
Pupil Leadership – Peace and Justice Leaders, Eco Team, ambassadors and liturgy leaders.
-
Charitable Action – CAFOD, Caritas Westminster, Guide Dogs, Children in Need, Young Minds and others.
-
Community Partnerships – Parish of St Edmund, local charities, and interfaith organizations.
Strategic Integration
We plan RJED strategically across the year, aligning it with:
-
Ten Ten RSE themes
-
Catholic Life Calendar
-
Catholic Social Teaching principles and feast days
-
Interfaith visits and dialogue
-
Curriculum priorities and worship themes
All of this is mapped in our Master Alignment Matrix, which ensures that our Gospel values are taught, celebrated, and lived through curriculum, prayer, charitable action, and reflection.

St Edmund’s Fundraising Campaigns – Making a Difference Together
At St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that even small acts of kindness can create big ripples of change. This year, through the generosity of our children, families and staff, we have supported several important charities — helping communities locally and across the world.
CAFOD – Building a Better World
Our school raised £52 for CAFOD, supporting projects like Khera’s community in Kenya. Donations help families receive hardy chickens so they can earn a living, buy essentials, and send their children to school.
Catholic Children’s Society – Supporting Local Families
We also raised £60.70 to help disadvantaged children and families in our local area, providing vital support and hope where it is needed most.
St Joseph’s Hospice – Caring for Our Community
Through our fundraising, we contributed £454.60 to St Joseph’s Hospice. This helps them provide high-quality care for people across East London living with life-limiting conditions and support for their loved ones.
These achievements are a reflection of our school’s Gospel values in action — showing compassion, generosity, and community spirit.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed. Together, we are living out our mission to make the world a fairer, kinder place.

INTERNATIONAL DAY
Every year we celebrate international day where the children come to school dressed in traditional clothing from their country and parents bring in food to share with others. We are extremely proud of our multi cultural school. God has blessed us with a rich cultural diversity and we take every opportunity to celebrate our heritage.
‘Praise the Lord, all nations! Extol him, all peoples! For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord! ‘
Psalm 117:1-2
The command to love our neighbour extends to all human beings irrespective of race, ethnicity, culture, or background; as Christ’s disciples, our love for one another will ensure that all members of our College community are held to be equal and are treated with dignity and respect.
We aim to challenge bias, discrimination, stereotyping and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under the Equality Act 2010, that can lead to racial injustice or inequality and will work to embed anti-racist practice into all areas of our work, to create a more equitable and inclusive community.
The promotion of human dignity is the foundation of Catholic social teaching at St Edmund's Catholic Primary School. We aim to educate our young people as to what needs to be rejected as wrongful and unworthy, and celebrate our common humanity.
We aim to address the cumulative effects of past and present inequities to eliminate disparities and enable all our pupils to flourish. We believe that this can be achieved through the education of the whole person throughout the whole curriculum.
As an expression of Christ’s love, we support a vibrant school with full equality that embraces diversity and allows for equitable opportunity for all; together we celebrate the diversity that enriches and unifies our community.
Monitoring and Evaluation
RJED is monitored through:
-
Catholic Life and RJED governor visits
-
Leadership monitoring and Catholic Self-Evaluation (CSED)
-
Annual review of the Master Alignment Matrix
-
Section 48 inspections (Catholic Life, RE, Worship)
-
Community feedback and pupil voice
Our aim is to be a prophetic, welcoming, and courageous Catholic community, living out justice, equality and love through action, prayer, and learning.
Racial Justice, Equality & Diversity (RJED)
At St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that every person is created in the image and likeness of God and deserves to be welcomed, valued, and celebrated. Our commitment to Racial Justice, Equality and Diversity (RJED) flows from the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching, especially the principles of Human Dignity, Solidarity, and the Common Good.
RJED is not a separate initiative — it is woven through our curriculum, worship, feast days, saints, pupil leadership, charitable action, and community events.
Through Black History celebrations, Interfaith dialogue, themed assemblies, justice-focused charities, and our Master Alignment Matrix, we ensure that inclusion and equality are strategically planned and lived out across the school year.
At St Edmund’s, racial justice, equality and diversity are not additional projects but are central to our Catholic mission. Through strategic planning, worship, curriculum, and community action, we ensure that every child and adult knows that they are valued, included and loved by God.
Pupil Leadership for Justice, Inclusion & Faith
Racial Justice, Equality & Diversity at St Edmund’s
At St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that every child is made in the image and likeness of God and has a vital role to play in building a community rooted in faith, dignity, respect and love.
Our work on Racial Justice, Equality & Diversity (RJED) is brought to life not only through our curriculum and worship, but also through three dedicated pupil leadership teams who inspire, guide, and lead the school community throughout the year.
Caritas Ambassadors
Our Caritas Ambassadors are faith leaders who help the whole school put Gospel values into action through local, national, and global outreach.
They lead fundraising campaigns, visit classrooms to share the Wednesday Word and Catholic Social Teaching, and inspire others to live out our mission of love and service.
From Harvest collections to Eco-actions, they remind us that faith is most powerful when it is lived through action.
Peace & Justice Society
The Peace & Justice Society are pupil leaders who promote prayer, reflection, and action for justice.
Every week, they visit classrooms to celebrate the Word of God, lead peace reflections, and remind pupils of their mission to be peacemakers and advocates for fairness.
They play a key role in supporting fundraising, Lent activities, and diocesan events, helping to form a school culture where the Gospel of peace is at the heart of daily life.
Equality & Inclusion Ambassadors
Our Equality & Inclusion Ambassadors ensure that every child feels seen, valued and respected.
They help us celebrate the beauty of our diverse community through assemblies, cultural events, surveys and campaigns, while also giving pupils a voice to share their experiences and ideas.
They champion kindness, inclusion and fairness, supporting our whole-school RJED strategy and modelling Catholic Social Teaching in action — especially Human Dignity and Solidarity.
Living the Mission Together
Through these three groups, pupils become active leaders of change.
They pray, speak, and act to make St Edmund’s a place where everyone feels a sense of belonging, justice, and shared purpose — reflecting the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching in real, tangible ways every day.
